Life Is Fine by Langston Hughes
I went down to the river,
I set down on the bank.
I tried to think but couldn't,
So I jumped in and sank.
I came up once and hollered!
I came up twice and cried!
If that water hadn't a-been so cold
I might've sunk and died.
But it was Cold in that water! It was cold!
I took the elevator
Sixteen floors above the ground.
I thought about my baby
And thought I would jump down.
I stood there and I hollered!
I stood there and I cried!
If it hadn't a-been so high
I might've jumped and died.
But it was High up there! It was high!
So since I'm still here livin',
I guess I will live on.
I could've died for love--
But for livin' I was born
Though you may hear me holler,
And you may see me cry--
I'll be dogged, sweet baby,
If you gonna see me die.
Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine!
I set down on the bank.
I tried to think but couldn't,
So I jumped in and sank.
I came up once and hollered!
I came up twice and cried!
If that water hadn't a-been so cold
I might've sunk and died.
But it was Cold in that water! It was cold!
I took the elevator
Sixteen floors above the ground.
I thought about my baby
And thought I would jump down.
I stood there and I hollered!
I stood there and I cried!
If it hadn't a-been so high
I might've jumped and died.
But it was High up there! It was high!
So since I'm still here livin',
I guess I will live on.
I could've died for love--
But for livin' I was born
Though you may hear me holler,
And you may see me cry--
I'll be dogged, sweet baby,
If you gonna see me die.
Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine!
For my second blog post, I did a poem. This poem is called Life is Fine by Langston Hughes. This poem is about living life to your fullest. The poem states how you could have died but you didn't die so you are fine.
In the poem it states, " I might've sunk and died", but the author didn't. The author is trying to prove that you need to live life your fullest if you really want to live. You need to take some risks once in a while. "YOLO" - You Only Live Once- is a great slang term to help get a better understanding of the poem.
The author has advanced from over the theme. He starts out saying how he could have died of doing such risky things, but he realizes that he doesn't die. You have to live life to your fullest is what he is trying to get out in his poem.

Hi Rucha, I really enjoyed reading your description on this poem, especially when you described the theme. I agree with what it's trying to say-live life to he fullest, and take risks. Does this poem connect with your book in some way?
