Summer Reading Book ~ Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars consists of many themes in just one book. In the book, the main theme being used is love. Hazel Grace Lancaster falls in love with Augustus Waters. They both have a connection with each other, cancer. This helps them become closer to each other. They meet each other at a Social Group for cancer survivors. They later start to like each other and start out as friends at first. Then they become to like each other, then love.

Some of the quotes in the book that will help make this theme is "It sure was a privilege to love him.... gives you an idea how I feel about you?" (Green 278)  and “But you keep the promise anyway. That's what love is. Love is keeping the promise anyway.” (Green 61). The quotes will help prove a point that shows how Augustus Waters love each other.

Hazel Grace Lancaster develop over the course of The Fault in our Stars a lot. She starts out as a boring, ordinary figure which does not have many friends. She then goes to a Support Group for cancer survivor, she does not want to go there and she was forced by her parents. She was lucky to go there because that is where she meets Augustus Waters and everything starts to go upward, until one part happens (no spoilers). Augustus Waters is also a complex character in the book. Both of them change each other.

In the book, they need each other. Hazel Grace Lancaster gone from a girl who was depressed to a girl who was the happiest girl on earth. Augustus Waters loved Hazel and made her feel special and also made himself feel special.

  1. Your first blog post was very captivating and I want to read The Fault in Our Stars now. Very good summary without giving out the spoilers. The only question I wonder is, "What has Augustus done that made Hazel the 'happiest girl on earth?'"
